Date Change

Why Did It Happen

As we explained in our announcement, an internal miscommunication led to our hotel accidentally double-booking us an another event. After discussions with the hotel, we decided that the best course of action would be to agree to change dates.

Why Did We Agree to Move Dates?

Several reasons. Firstly we could. Moving dates was not a huge issue for us because we had plenty of time to warn people, change arrangements and so on. Secondly it was advantageous in some ways. World Fantasy Con is traditionally held over Halloween weekend. The original dates that we had been offered by the hotel were a week later. Agreeing to change dates meant that we could hold the convention on the traditional weekend. And finally, holding out for our original dates would have caused a lot of difficulty between ourselves, the hotel and the other event. It is never a good idea to be trying to run an event when you have a bad relationship with your facilities. By agreeing to change dates we have instead earned ourselves some goodwill with the hotel.

I Can’t Make the New Dates, Can I Get a Refund?

Of course. Full details of how to get a refund are available here.

How Will It Affect the Convention?

Mostly, not at all. The date change happened well before any arrangements were set in stone. However, as we noted above, the convention will now be taking place over Halloween. San José happens to be home to one of the world’s most famous haunted houses: the Winchester Mystery House. Some of you have set stories there. Traditionally the Mystery House hosts a flashlight tour of the facilities on Halloween. At the very least we hope that some of you will be able to go on that tour. Hopefully we will be able to negotiate something a little more special.
