Edgar Allan Poe was born on the 19th of January, 1809. Our convention honors the 200th anniversary of his birth. There are many tributes to Poe being posted around the blogosphere today. Here is Ellen Datlow, who recently published an anthology of new stories also honoring Poe’s anniversary.

Update: And here is Neil Gaiman.

I am thrilled to know that WFC will be honoring Edgar A. Poe this year. He was probably the first author I read, when I was a wee lad in grade school. And the first piece of fiction that I remember writing — must have been in 4th or 5th grade — was my own sequel to or interpretation of “The Tell-Tale Heart”. I am now working on a prose-poem sequence, with each segment inspir’d by Poe’s Life & Works, for a forthcoming Poe book from Centipede Press. What a wondrous experience it will be, to be gather’d in the midst of the professional community and celebrate Poe! My heart quivers with adventurous expectancy!
